What are some tips to ground deer hunting with a shotgun?
I’m hunting in unfamiliar woods, and I’m just looking for helpful hints.
-How to decide where a good place to sit is?
-How to read my surroundings?
-Are the trails leading into the woods or leaving the woods?
-etc. Etc. Etc.
find the trail that looks like it’s is traveled the most look for fresh tracks dropping scraped rubs and find you a downed tree about 20-40 yards from it with the wind in your favor and crawl in it and wait hopefully it will pay off just look for the signs that deer are present in the area bucks will follow the does they will most likely take the same trails frequently unless disturbed they might get skittish for a bit
good luck

Look for trails with deer hoof prints, small tree’s with scrape marks, in thick grass look for bedding spots.
Pick a spot to sit where you are covered but can still see down a path or overlooking a clearing.
Most important is to be downwind so they can not smell you.
These are mostly for early morning and evening hunts.
For afternoon, a shotgun is good for walking in thick brush where deer lay up during the day.

Sometimes it’s trial and error. If you don’t know the property start with finding heavy deer activity and food sources such as acorns beech nuts etc.Try to stay perpendicular to trails with heavy activity with the wind in your face, but don’t be to close(give yourself at least 40-50 yards between you and your target). Like any other close range hunting, you’ll want to stay hidden to start with.Wear good cammo and always keep track of your wind direction to keep from getting busted.Other than that watch, learn, keep quiet, and be still. Good luck!!!

U can use scent lures… This morning i was not hunting but calling deer and i had dominant buck scent and using a grunt call. I had a 10 point buck come to me from 75 yards and he got 15 yards from me. But when you sit… u have to be very still and move if u have to be very slow.

Follow tracks and try to call some in. Since a shotgun is short range, if one gets close, get behind a tree and call it in close.
