I’ve heard of these weigh in stations. In New York we don’t have em and I hadn’t heard about them till this year. I guess they’re in Vermont as well. We just tag em ourselves up here.

So are u saying u only need a hunting licence to take deer where u live? and the station provides the tag? “Thank u for answering my questions.”

    some hunters do …
some hunters do themselves, others dont. it depends on if you have the equipment to butcher it yourself. i myself do, but with some deer it can just be easier to take to a butcher. As for the check in station, ask your local hunter store/tackle shop. You have to take your deer to a state check in station to get it tagged. The local shop should know where the ones around you are. They just have to clip a tag on the deer so the DNR know it was taken legally if your pulled over or checked.

    I thought most …
I thought most hunters butcher the deer them selves. Are u saying most hunters take it to a pro butcher? Also what do u mean by check in station? Iv never hunted deer before.

    put tarp down if …
put tarp down if you don’t want hair/blood in back of truck. keeps it out pretty well. and theres no need to keep it cool, you just need to take it to a check in station within 48 hours. if you take it early in the season it would be best to check in asap. if its below freezing out, you can hang the deer up and check in later- will be cold enough outside to keep cool. Then put in freezer after you have checked it or take it to wherever you have it butchered.
