Best public hunting land in Ohio for deer?
Which public hunting land in Ohio offers the highest likelihood for success? Any tips on the preferred methods or strategies to use for best results? Also, your preferred tools: rifle, shotgun, crossbow, archery? This will be my first deer hunt. Thanks!
I would have to say wayne national forest is the best place to start for a variety of reasons: there is a huge amount of land in which to hunt, the possibility of running into feral hogs could ruin your deer hunt but provide you the chance to literally bring home the bacon. I have yet to go there but I’m making plans to do that one day. Use a bow or crossbow, it’s more difficult but definitely more rewarding when success comes your way. Purchasing a crossbow is easier on your wallet than shelling out 600-$1000 for a compound bow though.

What are some good scents to use for deer hunting?
I’m going deer hunting in the northeastern part of minnesota and i was wondering if anyone knew of some tips for luring the big buck in
If you had "good sense" you would not be hunting deer! As a rehabilitator, I know that deer are more loving and intelligent than most overweight men in camo. It’s only a sport when both parties are armed. Grow up, get an education, and do something GOOD for someone else!
Deer Hunting?
Last night, I purchased two bottles of the Tink’s brand deer scents: #1 Doe-P & Trophy Buck. I also purchased some of their scent bomb containers.
I was just wondering if anybody has had any success with these products. Any tips on how to use them would be great also!
P.S.- I was thinking about hanging one near a scrape, by tying some thin fishing line to it and hanging it from a branch. My theory is if it’s up in the air, there will be more wind/scent movement. Just tell me if you think it would work.
Catherine, before you try assualting us on false premises, learn how to spell:
"What gives people like you the right to thing they can kill for sport?"
Think is spelled T-H-I-N-K not T-H-I-NG
ANY Buck lure or Doe-P will work initially as a cover scent for when you are in the area you intend to hunt. Before you get into the woods put a few drops on your boots to mask human odor..The main times the scents work the best is during the Whitetail "Rut" which hasn’t started yet. After a good frost and the Bucks start the rut, any Doe-P scent will have a positive effect because they are designed to "attract" a Buck wanting to mate. The DoeP contains actual Doe Esterus which is a liquid scent that Does produce in their hind leg tarsal scent glands. This is spread by the Doe walking and urinating and actually leaves a scent trail for the Bucks to smell and follow. Trophy Buck scent is to make dominant Bucks in the area think that there are other Bucks challenging their territory and they respond aggressively looking for them.
Your idea of using the scent bomb dispensers is a good one as the scent spreads over a larger area quicker if it is up off the ground several feet.I have had many Bucks actually respond to the scent and walk up and actually "sniff" the container. It’s also a good idea to hang a few cotton balls soaked in the scents from fishing line about 4′ off of the ground on limbs, not just over a rub, but on any active trails near your stand, Good Luck
FOR CATHERINE…..Honey,Don’t go away mad, just go AWAY!

Hunting tips?? My husband has taken up hunting, I want to suprise him with a special gift for our 20th?
anniversary, any recommendations on what i could give him for his n ew hobby, he seems to be more into bow hunting deer, I havent a clue, also any good deer recipes, I don’t know the first thing about cooking this kind of meat, he is having it "processed" whatever that means and I am sure He will want me to COOK it on up , Thanks
Honestly, although women hate them, a gift certificate is the best gift for a guy, especially when he’s into a new hobby you don’t know much about. Get him a gift card to wal-mart, Bass Pro Shop, Cabela’s, or Sportsman’s guide. (all available online.) That way he can buy whatever he needs.
Always bring bullets
